Surface rainfall-runoff is a defining component of the hydrological cycle both in natural and urbanized cacthments. Process based hydrological models are capable to simulate runoff dynamics. However, the calculations are sensitive to the temporal resolution of the precipitation input data. The aim of the research is to quantify this sensitivity by carrying out a set of numerical experiments. The analysis focuses on runoff from a single soil column and applies different calculation methods: the solution of the Green-Ampt formula (software: SWMM) and the Richards equation (software: Hydrus-1D). High-frequency measured precipitation time series are used as input data with different temporal aggregation, simulations can be both event and process based. Optionally the influence of soil types and the presence/absence of vegetation can also be analyzed.
